Pressure Vacuum Breaker Services in Blaine, MN

Serving the Twin Cities Metro and Surrounding Areas

Most people assume that when water comes out of faucet or spigot, it only flows in one direction. However, due to how outdoor water devices work, there is a risk of backflow if the right safety precautions are not taken. Specifically, a pressure vacuum breaker is necessary to reduce the risk of siphoning toxic chemicals or liquids back into the water supply for your home or business.

Air Mechanical Heating, Cooling & Plumbing offers a full range of water control and valve installation services in the Andover area. If you’re interested in learning more about the safety benefits of a pressure vacuum breaker for your outdoor water needs, contact us today.

How Pressure Vacuum Breakers Work

Pressure breaker valves contain a poppet that is spring loaded to block water from flowing in the opposite direction. They are therefore used in any downstream situations and should be tested frequently to ensure they are working properly.

When water enters the PVB through the water inlet, it is then fed into the check valve. This check valve holds only 1psi at a time. Once water enters the check valve, the valve opens and the poppet compresses the air inlet’s spring up to 1psi. That air inlet is closed through pressurization and only opens when the pressurization grows greater than the water pressure in the valve. In effect, it makes it impossible for water to backflow into the pressure valve and therefore stops chemicals or other liquids from returning to the water supply.

Pressure Vacuum Breaker Installation & Service

There are a few things to consider when having a PVB installed. First, it must be placed at least twelve inches above the highest location where you will use water from that supply. It’s also important to have your pressure vacuum breaker tested regularly because there are instances when this type of valve can fail. These devices are designed for quick and easy testing, so if you have annual maintenance performed on your plumbing, you should request this service as part of the process.

Whatever your needs, know that Air Mechanical is here to help. We offer a full range of plumbing services in the area and we would be glad to help you maintain the safety of your water supply.
